Bridging Web2 and Crypto for Xsolla's next-gen payments infrastructure

Ongoing engagement supporting Xsolla's move from a global game-commerce giant (2,500+ games, 1,000+ developers, millions of players) into a Layer 2 blockchain platform for cross-game asset ownership.

The problem

Xsolla operates the rails for thousands of game developers and millions of gamers worldwide. Extending that infrastructure to Crypto — Layer 2 payments, NFT checkout, embedded wallets — without compromising the throughput, latency, or compliance posture their Web2 customers already depend on is a fundamentally different engineering problem than bolting crypto onto an app.

How we approached it

We partner with Xsolla's platform teams on the Crypto data engineering and ML that sit underneath Xsolla ZK (Layer 2 on Ethereum via ZKsync), NFT Checkout (fiat-to-crypto on-ramps), and the Xsolla Wallet. Our role is to bring the specialized domain experience — high-throughput payments, blockchain data, Crypto identity — that lets their team ship without re-deriving hard-won lessons from scratch.

The outcome

Engagement is active and ongoing. We've helped accelerate the path from architecture to production on multiple initiatives, and the team has a playbook for the next wave of Crypto features.

Why this engagement is different

Most Crypto work we see starts with a blockchain team trying to ship to a consumer audience. Xsolla is the opposite: a mature Web2 payments business with real scale, moving carefully into on-chain infrastructure. The engineering constraints are different — you don’t get to break the existing business — and the organizational shape of the project is different too.

What we focus on

  • High-throughput payments infrastructure that behaves under load and under regulatory review
  • Blockchain data pipelines that stay coherent across chain reorgs and Layer 2 state updates
  • ML where it moves the needle on fraud, routing, or pricing — not where it’s a demo
  • Domain translation between the Web2 payments world and the Crypto primitives teams they’re building alongside

What “digital backpacks” actually means

Cross-game asset ownership is the headline. Underneath it is a data model that has to handle millions of asset moves per day, resolve into many wallets and many games, and stay audit-ready. That’s the problem we’re helping solve.
